About the Mermaid Fund
Investing in 'Planet Sense'
The Mermaid Fund is a £100 million fund managed by Equity Vision Ltd that will invest in environmental products and services that make sense for the planet – we call that Planet Sense. Specifically, the Fund will invest in the burgeoning seaweed industry.
The investment team at Equity Vision has identified companies at the heart of the seaweed revolution that address some of the current issues caused by global warming such as the proliferation of Sargassum seaweed on our beaches, as well as those that recognise the value of seaweed as a resource.
The principal aim of the Mermaid Fund investment strategy is to build an ecosystem of interdependent companies in the seaweed space to participate in a circular economy.
What this means is that the mermaid fund will target its investments at all those companies in the supply and distribution chain of seaweed based products, avoiding the throwaway culture of the linear economy.
The fund will be structured in such a way that every element of the circular economy is catered for, including beach clearance, harvesting, processing, design, manufacturing and recycling, resulting in a uniquely responsible fund for ethical investors.

Attributes of the Mermaid Fund
The Fund will be of a standard 10 year duration, with a 2% annual management fee and 20% performance fee, with limited partners assuming liability for their individual investment whilst the general partner will maintain complete liability. Target returns for investments will be an IRR of 30%, with at least 15 separate investments in the portfolio.
CAGR for the Seaweed sector as a whole is projected to be 7.51%
Types of Investment
In line with the principle of the circular economy, the Mermaid Fund will invest in companies in every segment of the seaweed market. It is a global fund, and may invest in organisations throughout the world that play a part in the value chain, with the exception of in jurisdictions subject to international sanctions.
